2017 Masters Artistic Pool Championship

The 2017 WPA-APD Masters Artistic Pool Championship will once again return to Jamaica Joe’s Billiard Bar and Grill in Midwest City Oklahoma on September 22nd through September 24th. This will be Jamaica Joe’s third Artistic Pool Tournament in as many years. Players from all over the country will descend on Midwest City to show off their skills and compete for the honor to be called Masters Champion. The two previous events at Jamaica Joe’s were won by WPA #1 ranked player William “The Gentleman” DeYonker. William will be going for the “3 peat” while the other players and looking to dethrone William. The event will be once again streamed for free by “The Michigan Kid” Jason Lynch. The WPA-APD will once again partner with the charity group 10 Strong to help raise money for families that have kids will cancer. The WPA-APD has partnered with 10 Strong the previous two years and helped to raise over two thousand dollars. The event will once again feature an open speed pool tournament as a fundraiser for 10 Strong. This event allows amateurs to compete with the Artistic Pool pros in a test of speed and concentration. For the last two years, local player and current WPA-APD President “Dr Popper” Mark Dimick has won the tournament. Like William, Mark is looking for the “3 peat” while others are looking to win for the first time.

Saturday night a selected few with compete in a side exhibition that will be near and dear to the hearts of the Artistic Pool community, The Ben Zeman Artistic Pool Shootout. Ben Zeman was the founder of the Wisconsin Artistic Pool Players Association. (later renamed the World Artistic Pool Players Association) The WAPPA was formed for players to share their shots and a way for players to connect with each other online and bring in new people. Ben also started an amateur artistic pool movement in Wisconsin as well as an APA league. Sadly the pool world lost Ben early this year. To help honor Ben’s memory and devotion to the sport of Artistic Pool, his dream will play out at the 2017 Masters event. He created a H.O.R.S.E. format for trick shots, which he used for his amateur events. His dream was to have some of the top players compete in this format and on Saturday September 23rd, his wish will be granted as a handful of top players will do just that. Instead of spelling out H.O.R.S.E., players will be spelling out WAPPA. Ben said, “I want to leave a Legacy” and the WPA-APD will make sure that his legacy will live on.
